rj muna selected for pdn 2013 photo annual: 1 of 24 in advertising

Congratulations to RJ Muna for being one of 24 photographers worldwide selected for the 2013 PDN Photo Annual in the Advertising category. RJ’s three winning images were shot for long-time client ODC Dance with choreographers KT Nelson and Brenda Way.

RJ wrote a very insightful (and fun) piece for me last year about how he, KT and Brenda developed the concept for this project. Read the full story here.

Wow. I have been back less than 24 hours and still, I am spinning from the events of last week. I am somewhat at a loss to try to encapsulate it all, but alas, I will try. Firstly, the Palm Springs Photo Festival, it is indescribable. I was so honored to be asked back as a portfolio reviewer, and to be a part of something so exceptional. The event is humbling, inspirational, hard work and so much fun. There is too much to talk about, but I will briefly mention Marjorie Salvaterra, Stephen Wilkes, Ashley Gilbertson, Art Streiber, Ralph Gibson, Roger Ballen, Chris PilcherRJ Muna and Jeff Dunas. It is best described by us Faculty as “camp”, so to that end, I will mention my PSPF “camp” posse; Suzee Barrabee, Lisa Oropallo, Ken Zane, Frank Meo, Shannon McMillan, Leah Levine, Norman Maslov, Susan Baraz, Allegra Wilde and Andy Katz.

Palm Springs + LA2

PSPF segued into a condensed version of the MCA roadshow in Los Angeles. Instead of the usual 4 suspects, Quinci and I were this time only joined by Jamie Kripke. It was an amazing two days chock full of appointments, connections, great coffee at Intelligentsia, to die for lunch at Gjelina, drinks poolside at the Viceroy and one fantastic dinner at Park Ave with one of our oldest friends Jessica Mirolla. There isn’t a day that goes by when I am not reminded how lucky I am to do what I do, but weeks like the last one bring the point home in an incredibly powerful way.
